Question: I have a pacemaker i hear the longevity of its battery is between 5 to 10 years. can i get new ones repeatedly?

I just want to know the longevity of my life. Can I get 3- 4 pacemakers over my lifetime..Im 50 years old.

The cardiologist checks it on a regular basis and replaces the batteries when needed. My dad had a machine that he hooked up to and put the phone on it. After about 10 or so years he needed the batteries replaced. It was day surgery. They will replace the pacemaker when necessary. You'll have plenty of years ahead of you.

Yes. You can. The leads are left in place, unplugged from the unit and a new one implanted in the same pocket under your skin. I am 53, and have had one replaced after the battery failed. It is very important to have it checked regularly. Mine beeped, very very faintly when the battery began to get low. I had no clue what it was..... and it happened at 2am and 2pm. At 2pm Im usually pretty busy, but finally one early morning at the computer I heard it. Pretty much freaked me out, but I had surgery a few days later. It is considered day surgery.

Yes!!! I am 24 years old, and have only had my pacemaker for about a year and a half. From what I understand, having a pacemaker replaced is a simple procedure. If the leads have to be replaced, then it is a bit more involved, but the leads should last much longer than the pacemaker, so I doubt you have anything to worry about. I am young and pacemaker dependent, so I know that I will have several pacemakers over the course of my lifetime. Just don't worry about it! Go to all of your scheduled appointments with your EP or cardiologist, and live life! Take care, Amanda
